Update on Wintersburg Levee

I was informed by Flood Control this morning that some of the fencing along the south side of the channel will be “rolled back” either today or tomorrow. They indicated that the closure at Graham   St. will remain in place, but the fencing near Allstone Drive/Bates Circle and fencing that was inadvertently installed further south  along the channel (toward the Pocket Bridge) will be rolled back for now. However, the closure along the north side of the channel, where the metal pilings were installed, will remain in place. Flood Control also indicated that once it clears the regulatory hurdles to make improvements on the south side of the channel, it will likely be closed during that construction phase. This may not happen for a while (at least not until the end of this year and possibly longer than that).

It should also be noted that one of your neighbors sent us a rather compelling email about the negative effects of bikes, motorized vehicles and unleashed dogs and the resultant damage to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. This neighbor advocates keeping the berms closed on both sides of the channel from Graham to the Pocket Bridge . Perhaps part of the public discussion going forward should include these concerns. Just something to be aware of…

Thanks,
Rick Francis
