Huntington Beach Mayor Sued for Calling Herself the Huntington Beach Mayor
From the OC Register:
Orange County Republican leaders have filed a lawsuit challenging Congressional candidate Debbie Cook's ballot designation as mayor of Huntington Beach.
Cook, a Democrat, is a candidate for the 46th Congressional seat held by Republican Dana Rohrabacher. The two will face off in the November general election.
The lawsuit was filed Monday in Orange County Superior Court by Keith Carlson, treasurer of the California Republican Party and a constituent in Cook's district, said Mike Schroeder, his attorney in the matter.
Schroeder contends that Cook is violating the election code by using the title of mayor on her ballot designation. Only positions directly elected by the voters can appear on the ballot, he said.
Cook said she's read the code and feels that she is within her right to use the title of mayor.
"The very fact that they've decided to sue us says we're on the radar screen," Cook said. "They're paying attention. This means that they're concerned.''
She called the lawsuit a diversion.

Great.
A Republican jerk-off with nothing better to do than shower free publicity on Debbie Cook's overreaching congressional campaign. Next thing you know, a shadowy "Ralph Nader" third-party doofus candidate will appear outta' nowhere and wind up on the ballot in November alongside Rohrabacher and Cook.
"Check please."
